For the moment, at least, we have grouped a number of the units in
the CEF Corps that were not in the Canadian Field Artillery or the
Infantry Battalions into this section. The primary reason for this
approach is that there were fewer individual units in these groups and
as of yet very little has been accomplished in the development of the
summary tables.
As more work is completed, you may find that this table is once again
split to deal with each of these groups individually. For now, we
can at least acknowledge that these units were instrumental components
of the 4 CEF Divisions.
Divisional Ammunition Columns (AC)
Each Division had one Ammunition Column. Of interest, there was
also a 5th Divisional Ammunition Column, however since the 5th
Division never served as a complete unit, the 5th Divisional
Ammunition Column details are associated with the "Corps Heavy
Artillery", as the 5th Divisional Artillery did go to France
without the rest of the 5th Division.

Divisional Canadian Engineers (CE)
Each Division had one Brigade of "Canadian Engineers", so
the Division and Brigade number is the same, although they were only referred
to by the "Brigade". Each Brigade had 3 Battalions as
follows: (WDL for Brigades: 1st;
2nd;
3rd;
4th).
Caution: The Number Block can not currently be established as
for the "xth Battalion Canadian Engineers", as that
nomenclature was a result of the reorganization. The "xth Canadian
Engineers Battalion" did however absorb the No. "x"
Canadian Field Company so we have provided than number block.

Trench Mortar Batteries (TMB)
Each Infantry Brigade had one "Trench Mortar Battery" so
there were a total of 12 Trench Mortar Batteries as follows: (note:
LAC refers to them as "xth Brigade, Trench Mortar Battery").
Love refers to them as "No. "x" Canadian Light Trench
Mortar Battery" in 1918 but I have not yet found any reference to
the Number Blocks, etc.

Canadian Machine Gun Corps (CMGC)
Each Division had 1 Battalion of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, so
there were 4 Battalions each having a number that matched the Division
number. Please also note that there were an additional 2
components of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps associated with the Army
Troops which were identified as the 1st and 2nd Motor Machine
Gun Brigades. Several of the members of
the CEFSG have a great area of concentration on the CMGC and so with
time we expect that this topic will be well covered. Please
see the Forum
Discussion Topic on the CMG units for further details at this
time as well as all details of the "Canadian
Machine Gun Corps Study Group". (*)
(Note: LAC refers to them as "xth

Divisional Train Canadian Army Service Corps (C.A.S.C.)
Each Division had 1 Train of the Canadian Army Service Corps,
responsible for critical supply and transport. Thus there were 4
Trains each having a number that matched the Division number.
Please also note that there were an additional 6 components of
the Canadian Army Service Corps associated with the Army
Troops as described in the 3rd
Echelon.
(LAC has only these war diary listings for Canadian
Army Service Corps). These are reported as "xth
Divisional Train", no CASC nomenclature)

Field Ambulances (FA)
Each Division had 3 Field Ambulance units, so there were 12 Field
Ambulances in the Army Corps. An additional 14th Field Ambulance was
affiliated with the Army
Troops Medical Corps. The 7th Field Ambulance was associated
with the Cavalry Troops (as per the War Diaries but not noted in the
Nicholson text).

Divisional Employment Company (EC)
Lastly, each Division had 1 Employment Company. There were an
additional 5 Employment Companies associated with the LABOUR force in
the Army Troops (5th to 9th EC).
As of yet I have not been able to locate information on their Number
Blocks.
