From LECM 76th Btn.:
The 76th Overseas Battalion, C.E.F., under the command of
Lt-Col. J. Ballantine, D.S.O., formerly Major with the 4th
Battalion, C.E.F., began organizing in the summer of 1915. The
battalion drew men from a number of regiments in southwestern
Ontario outside of Toronto. About half of the men were received
from the 13th Royal Regiment and the 91st Regiment, both of
Hamilton. The battalion was eventually sent overseas where it
was subsequently disbanded and its men used as replacements for
units already in the field.
